Short Stirling Mk. IV prototype "LJ512" visits BAD-2 Warton circa 1943. Stirling Mk. III bombers were converted to the paratroop and glider towing Mk. IV variant, after their use as bombers was negated.

Steeped in history.

One of the procedures performed by Flight Test on P-51s after they had left the tender lovin’ care of the crews in Hangar 5 was to check and possibly readjust the automatic manifold pressure setting of the engine. This test was conducted on a special hardstand in Dispersal area one. (Located to the Northwest of the airfield. The hard-standings can still be seen today and are now amongst Bank Lane, the sports fields, School Farm and the caravan park)

The following images below show two more of our guests.
The 1st is a P51 and the 2nd is a P61 AKA The Black Widow. Which was a night fighter and used more in Pacific areas.
